‘RUIN’ draws its inspiration from William Morris’ Troy Type (1892), however is much-simplified (other imitations include Morris-Gotisch by Berthold, 1902). The forms of characters like the O and the Q are fully rounded and letters with descenders redrawn. The overall width and impression is more standard and of course much heavier.

Designed for Letterpress

Ur Types is a family of typefaces created exclusively for wood type letterpress through a collaboration between East of Rome type foundry and TYPA Printing and Paper Art Centre.

Each letter, in every size, has been carefully designed to fit the traditional fixed-width Cicero unit system used in letterpress composition. While the typefaces can be explored through specimen sheet, the complete Ur Types family is available exclusively from TYPA as wood type in four sizes: 20, 16, 12, and 8 Cicero.
