‘TANG’ draws strong inspiration from Weiss Rundgotisch (1938), a distinctive typeface that combines simplified blackletter forms with elements of the medieval Rotunda writing style. The result is a bold yet approachable design that brings historic typographic traditions into contemporary letterpress printing.

Designed for Letterpress

Ur Types is a family of typefaces created exclusively for wood type letterpress through a collaboration between East of Rome type foundry and TYPA Printing and Paper Art Centre.

Each letter, in every size, has been carefully designed to fit the traditional fixed-width Cicero unit system used in letterpress composition. While the typefaces can be explored through specimen sheet, the complete Ur Types family is available exclusively from TYPA as wood type in four sizes: 20, 16, 12, and 8 Cicero.
