Description
Krat is a semi-gothic hybrid of humanist and blackletter which takes reference from Rudolf Koch’s Wallau (1933), an interpretation of 14C Italian rotunda styles. Part of the Ur Types, by East of Rome type foundry, a gothic family made solely for wood type letterpress in collaboration with TYPA Print Museum. Each letter, in each size, has been designed to fit into a fixed width Cicero unit system. Each type can be tested on the type sample pages here but for general use the Ur types are only available (in four sizes, 20, 16 12 and 8 Cicero) as wood type from TYPA.
Materials
Beech hardwood is used – set to European type height. Each block is finished with shellac and polished.
All type height is 23.56mm – please write to request another height.
All woodtype is made to order, and it is ~2 weeks turnaround (not including postage time).
